Matthew, P. Change of seed: utility of change of place, and change of air and soil, to organic life. Farmer’s Magazine, Ser. 3 Vol 19 (1861, Jan-Jun), pp.153-4
(Letter dated Feb 21)
Matthew talks of the benefits of a change of soil and climate on crops: “That change, if not too wide, gives a stimulus to the vis vitae, and is corrective of any locally-produced defect”. There is a brief mention of “the law of competitive selection”, and also of his unorthodox views on electricity in a footnote.
