There is a 10 month gap between Sept 1861 and July 1862 where it appears Matthew contributed no pieces to the Farmer’s Magazine or the Gardeners’ Chronicle and Agricultural Gazette. Then Matthew returned in force.
In addition to agricultural matters, Matthew continued to write extensively on the “greatest national evil” of restrictive land tenancy, and its negative effects on national agricultural production via the depletion of healthy “vegetable mould”. There are a few passing references to evolution and related matters here and there.
