A letter correcting statements in a previous letter by a “Mr Mechi”. It is perhaps no coincidence that Mechi wrote a letter disagreeing with Matthew’s views on the vegetable mould, earlier in the year. Matthew’s letter is also reproduced in the Sherborne Mercury Tuesday 12 July 1864.
There is an interesting editorial insertion – note the “[!]” inserted after the following statement from Matthew:
“In Scotland we manage these matters better than you do in England, [!]”
