Few articles are known prior to 1860. It’s unclear whether this is because Matthew wrote more following the ‘vindication’ of his ideas in Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, or whether he preferred to write anonymously prior to 1860, or whether he preferred to write in journals that are not currently available in open access digitized libraries (for example, the Mark Lane Express, which is specifically mentioned in the biography by Calman (1912) as one of Matthew’s preferred journals). I suspect there are more articles by Matthew waiting to be found.
