Matthew, P. Landlord and Tenant. Gardeners’ Chronicle and Agricultural Gazette (15 June 1867), p.637

(Article dated June 1)
This is an open letter from Matthew to the Right Hon. the Earl of Clarendon. Matthew returns to two of his long-standing subjects: the “pernicious system of farmer land occupancy” and the consequent mis-management of the “vegetable mould” in British agriculture.

It is interesting that the editors get Matthew’s first name wrong, referring to him as “Mr. Peter Matthew” despite his being their “old and valued correspondent”!

Matthew’s letter is also reproduced in the Coventry Standard Friday 21 June 1867 and in the same newspaper on Saturday 22 June 1867.
